Quarantine

You might not want to visit our house. We should be under some special quarantine for all the illnesses that have befallen us. I think I'll paint a big red X on our front door. Or maybe not, because I really don't want folks in hazmat suits showing up and ringing the door bell after the baby has gone to sleep for his inkling of a nap he calls night time. On the other hand, maybe a hazmat team wouldn't be a bad idea. At least the house would get cleaned. OH! I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, Momgineer, if you're such a great engineer, then why haven't you devised a way to clean your house since your last post? Come closer, my friend, so I can smack you on the back of the head for getting smarty with me. Don't you know that a momgineer needs SLEEP to function? And I'm talking like regular sleep....REAL sleep. Not that stuff that's broken into 2 hour increments.

I just got over being sick for 6 weeks, and Kelton decided to pick up not one but two viruses! Monday morning I had shooting pains in my lower abdomen. I learned Tuesday morning at the doctor's office that I had an ovarian cyst that had ruptured and caused some inflammation. Sometimes, I'd really like to know what the hell my body is up to. Thursday, Kelton started projectile vomiting. (isn't that a lovely mental image?) So, we ended up in the emergency room Thursday night. They really didn't do anything except take some x-rays of him and give him an anti-nausea med. Friday morning we showed up at the pediatrician's office, where she diagnosed him with a virus causing the vomiting (which should eventually lead to diahrrea as it works its way through his system). AND a virus that has given him bronchialitis and is causing his cough. We learned that adults get bronchitis and babies get bronchialitis. This isn't one of those little coughs, either. Nosireeebob, this is a glorified cough until it triggers the baby's gag reflex and he empties the contents of his stomach. So, our sweet little trooper had a heck of a Memorial Day weekend, and we did a lot of laundry due to his inability to keep fluids down for very long. Kelton decided he likes regular unflavored Pedialyte better than his formula. So that made getting him back on formula a bit of a challenge, but hunger overcame his palate.

We also did a lot of sleeping in the living room because the only place we could keep him inclined was in his swing, and the only place he'll sleep in his swing is in the living room. That leads to a whole other story about why we read the tv on closed captioned so much now. I was so glad to see him giggling yesterday afternoon. He's eating small meals frequently, but he's eating a lot more than he was 4 days ago, and for that, we're very thankful! So now that he's feeling better, my body has declared that it's my turn again, and I'm frequenting the kleenex box today. I suppose that's better than frequenting the porcelain throne.

Oh my! Please take care of yourself! My mom went through years of cysts and I remember how much pain she was in. Poor baby! Bronchitis sucks - I just got over that in Feb. Isn't parenting glorious?

It's definitely been a ride that no one could have prepared me for! I love being a mom. And Hubby's been awesome...he's the pillar in this family because if I'm not sick the baby is sick and he's constantly tending to both of us! Can't wait until we get some regular sleep patterns and the family is rested and healthy!

Thanks for reading!
