Sunday Reflection

I woke up at 5AM yesterday morning because Kelton was stirring. It was well before his normal time of 6:30, so I knew he needed something...a bottle, a pat on the back, a whispered word...something. It turns out that yes, he did need a little milk from the bottle, but what he ended up doing was rolling over and getting right next to me...face to face...and watching me. Then he put his hand out and touched my face and held my nose and ran his fingers down my cheek. I rubbed his back gently and watched as he relaxed and gently eased back in to slumber.

It was then that I remembered an analogy a pastor taught once. We, as parents, are about as close to unconditional love that a child will see on this earth until they meet our Father in Heaven. We know that God loves us, His children, unconditionally, and we are to model that to our children. You can discipline and still love. You can direct their paths and still love. You can teach and still love. Or better yet, the phrase should be that we can do all of that because we love.

I have this habit of falling asleep in the midst of my prayers sometimes. It's such a peaceful way to fall asleep. Almost like cuddling up face to face with Him and touching His cheek to make sure He's still there.

"Come near to God, and He will draw near unto you." - James 4:8
