Showin' off the head band

K-man's doing just fine with his head band. Take a look.

My only concern now is that after it comes off, he'll have to learn that hitting his head on things actually hurts when not surrounded by plastic and foam molding. We, on the other hand, are becoming very adept at dodging his head while he wrestles over us.

Blogicon

Did I ever link to the blog where I got my "blogicon" from? That little mooosey up there next to my address...that's my blogicon. Cara over at Your Blogicon got me set up with it. She can do the same for you for an inexpensive $10. It's worth ever penny! Go over and see what she has. There's a list of other blogs she's set up with blogicons, too.

PS...I just sent her an e-mail to see if I can get my moosey changed to something else. I had an idea this morning while doing my hair. Hmmmm...thinking about my blogicon while only half awake and with a hot straightening iron only inches from my head. Is that safe?? Is that normal?

Questions?

I've been asked what kind of engineer I am, but before I answer - if anyone has any other questions, ask in the comments section and I'll answer them in a post this weekend. I'll see how creative I can get with the answers...or not...depends on how many bite marks the baby has left on me.

My header explained

I thought I'd tell what the pics are in my blog header. I'm grasping for blogging material. Writer's block must be contagious, even over the internet. I place the blame for that here.

Working from left to right - (because I'm analytical and anal about that kind of stuff)

  • Our wedding day in 2005. That dress was so tight I could hardly breathe. I was afraid it was going to fall off because I'd never worn anything strapless before so I had the seamstress take it in a little extra. That and the fact that the whole dieting before the wedding plan didn't exactly pan out.

  • Up and to the right - Our little guy around 3 months old. I had bought that hat for him and it was my first week back to work. I hated leaving him at daycare. He only stayed at that particular daycare that one week before we pulled him out.

  • Below - Me in December of 2007 on my grandparents' place. Hubby had rattled a buck up for me. I was watching him through the scope and said, "What do you think?" He said, "I think he looks goo-" BOOM! Dead deer. Happy me.

  • Next picture - Hubby and me after a very frigging cold morning of goose hunting.

  • Next - Hubby and me Christmas at our house December 2007.

  • Far right - Kelton around 4 months old (back in late March or early April).

  • Bottom pic - geese flying in over the water from our hunting trip.

Now you know...

Use the Brakes

Sometimes you do things that when you look back on the decision you made, you just have to shake your head and wonder what in the world your thought process was.

Take yesterday morning. I was ready to leave to go to work. The garage door was open, and the vehicle was on. I put it in reverse and backed up about 6 inches before it stopped moving. I thought, "Hmmm...that's odd." So I put it in drive and took my foot off the gas to see if it would roll forward, which it didn't. I put it back in reverse and thought, "Well, if it's stuck on something in the transmission, maybe I should just give it more gas." And I did...plenty of it. And I felt the back tire roll up on something.

I got out, walked around the vehicle, and saw a bathroom fixture firmly wedged underneath my back tire. I gave it a dirty look, got back in the driver's seat, and backed it up another foot. Then took the now mangled fixture out from under the vehicle and put it back on the garage shelf from which it fell.

As I drove to work, I called Hubby and told him the story of the now mangled fixture and how it came to be that way. I could hear him shaking his head on the other end of the line.

ME: "You know, I probably shouldn't have stomped on the gas when I wasn't sure what was behind me."

....*silence*....*him clearing his throat*...

HIM: "I was just thinking that but wasn't gonna say it."

I told you...he's a wise wise man.

I take no responsibility for slobber

I have a package going in the mail today to my best friend from college. She's overseas serving in Kuwait. I sent her an e-mail last night to let her know that I'm finally getting it shipped and I shared with her that it had been drooled on. Not by me. By the baby. I claim no responsibility for it! I mean, come on, how can a person juggle a roll of very sticky tape, a roll of really curly brown wrapping paper, and a drooly baby that seems to have 6 appendages all at the same time!! It was a losing battle, I tell ya! If someone was listening in, they would have heard this...

ME: Noooooo....
BABY: UGGGGGG....
ME: Stop it! Quit biting that!

*...pause...*

ME: Yeah! DUH! Cardboard doesn't taste good!

*sticky tape unrolling*

BABY: AAAAAHHHHH!!!
ME: WHAT?!

*....pause...*

ME: Stop it! go play with your toys! Ewww...you DROOLED on that!

*more sticky tape unrolling*

ME: Get your hand out from under the tape!
BABY: UUUUUUUUHHHHH....
ME: Are you POO-ing!?!? quit drooling on the box!

*go check the diaper*

ME: Don't bite me! OUCH! That H-U-R-T-S!

*bring baby back in living room and set him on his playmat*

*paper unrolling*

*baby army crawling back over*

ME: No no no!! no drool on the paper! HEY! These are scizzzzzzors! They're sharp! Go play with your toys!

*relocate baby...cut paper*

BABY: Da da da da da!
ME: Noooo...I'm MA MA MA MA.
BABY: *giggling*
ME: It's not funny! I'm Mama!!

*wrap package in paper*

ME: Hey, little dude! I can't fold it if you're sitting on it!
BABY: *blows bubbles at me*
ME: I see that.

*more sticky tape*

BABY: da da da daaaaDAAAAAAAA....
ME: Is that slobber on the package?!?!

*finally finished*

BABY: UUUUHHHHH....
ME: Are you POO-ing, again!? Ewwww...more drool! And don't bite me!

See??? I tried my best to keep the package dry.

The People Cooties Rule

I have this thing about being clean before I go to bed...before we go to bed. It's not just about me being clean, Hubby has to abide by the people cooties rule, too. He says there's no such thing. Ha! I'm here to put in print.

The people cooties rule - You MUST take a shower (or bath, whatever floats your...boat) before going to bed and getting between the sheets. No exceptions. It doesn't matter that you just took a shower 10 minutes ago and only stepped outside to check the wind, you still have to take another shower. It doesn't matter that you got in the vehicle in the garage and drove through the McDonald's drive through, you still left the house and must take another shower.

Obsessive? Irrational? Controlling? Yes. Yes. Yes. Still a rule? YES. There are people cooties that exist outside the walls of this house that must be washed off before getting in bed. Otherwise, your options are the floor, the couch, or laying on top of the duvet and not touching me (I happen to be clean). I have made poor Hubby's eyes bug out because of being so adamant about this rule. He still loves me....even when he's muttering in the shower.

And just so it's known...I never called it the people cooties rule before we got married. I just knew it creeped me out not to be absolutely clean before getting in bed. When Hubster learned of this fascinating aspect of my personality, he declared that I was afraid of people cooties. (only when it's bed time)

Do you have any strange quirky rules?

Sunday Reflection

I woke up at 5AM yesterday morning because Kelton was stirring. It was well before his normal time of 6:30, so I knew he needed something...a bottle, a pat on the back, a whispered word...something. It turns out that yes, he did need a little milk from the bottle, but what he ended up doing was rolling over and getting right next to me...face to face...and watching me. Then he put his hand out and touched my face and held my nose and ran his fingers down my cheek. I rubbed his back gently and watched as he relaxed and gently eased back in to slumber.

It was then that I remembered an analogy a pastor taught once. We, as parents, are about as close to unconditional love that a child will see on this earth until they meet our Father in Heaven. We know that God loves us, His children, unconditionally, and we are to model that to our children. You can discipline and still love. You can direct their paths and still love. You can teach and still love. Or better yet, the phrase should be that we can do all of that because we love.

I have this habit of falling asleep in the midst of my prayers sometimes. It's such a peaceful way to fall asleep. Almost like cuddling up face to face with Him and touching His cheek to make sure He's still there.

"Come near to God, and He will draw near unto you." - James 4:8

The head band

I finally got the pictures downloaded off the camera from taking K-man to get his head band earlier this week. It took a little over an hour because we had to take 'before' photos.

We had to strip him down to a diaper - but we left his socks on, too. Something about not feeling totally nekkid when you at least have your socks on. Of course, he didn't care. He's a happy dandy to have everything airing out...makes me nervous as a cat.

Uh huh....see that grin? He's up to something.

I snapped this one while they were setting him up for the pictures and then sepia-ed it in the rinky dink software that came with our camera. I like the affect on this picture. (must remember to install Photoshop)

Here's the band after it was put on him for the first time. A little banging on the walls and talking to his mama and that darn flash on her camera and then he was a happy camper to play with their toys.

Here he is at home...not too bothered by his helmet and happy to play with our cheap toys....a box.

Friday's Favorites

What a busy week! I took on some additional properties at my job and went from ho-hum to whoa! Famine to feast! Drought to floods! okay...enough of the cliches.

Here are my Friday favorites for this week...

My stone Texas coasters. I'm not really much of one for coasters, but I really like these two...simple and unique.

The wall hanging my grandmother made for Kelton's room. So detailed so much time went in to it.

See the detail on the center piece?

Homemade pizza...what else can I say?

The side-to-side baby swing...the results speak for themselves. Poor monkey ended up on the floor.

My favorite baby! :)
