Our first vacation

We did it. It's been over two years since the last time but we did it - and with a toddler in tow. We went on vacation. Albeit, it was only 2 hours from home. It was only for two nights. And it was at a place I ensured was kid friendly with a lot of room to run and lots of animals to look at. And it rained the entire time.

Things we learned:

  • Being cooped up in a little two room cabin (that's one bathroom and then the whole rest of the place) with a 21 month old is an interesting and exhausting task.

  • The word "No" and the phrase "Don't touch that" can be said over 2,349 times over the course of a two night stay.

  • K-man does not eat well in unfamiliar territory.

  • He does not sleep well without his crib despite the three layers of padding I filled his pack'n play with. It had more cushion that the planks of mattresses we slept on.

  • Flushing a toilet is great amusement, no matter the location (or who's sitting on it).

  • Neighing at the horses is all fun and games until one neighs back. Then it's time to scoot on over to visit with the chickens.

  • Donkey are only fun to look at until they bray real loud and run you off to go see the rabbits.

  • Puddle stomping is incredibly satisfying.

  • It's nice to have a short drive to get back home in time for lunch and a nap.

LOL. Now your comment on my blog makes sense. I know some kids are easy going and travel well, but clearly neither of us was blessed with one.
