Kelton will be 21 months old next week, and I truly believe we have entered the 2's before they are due. He has been cutting 2-year molars, throwing tantrums, rebelling against food that I know he likes, and his favorite word is now "No". Just last night, our "discussion" (because, really, can you call a talk with a toddler a discussion?) went something like this...
K: Uhhhhhh!!! jooooooosssss!!
Me: You want juice?
K: NO! Uhhhhhh!!! JOOOOOSSSS!!
Me: You want juice? (shaking the juice bottle)
K: Nooooo!!! DOOOOSSSHHH!
Me: Don't say that at daycare! You want milk?
K: Mikkkkk! NO! Deuce!! (pointing to the backdoor)
Me: You want to go outside?
K: Esssss!!!! Meeeemeee! (his version of please)
Me: Okay, let's get your shoes on!
K: Nooooo!!!
Me: You have to put your shoes on to go outside.
K: Nooooooo....(running away from me)
Me: Do you want to go outside?
K: No! Dooooooosh!!! (pulling my hand and taking me to his bedroom for toys)
Me: Don't say that at daycare!
*sigh*...why is everything "no"? And why are we struggling to get in the carseat every single flipping time? He's been doing great for a few months and now it sounds like a cat screaching in the vehicle every time we have to get him in his carseat. And he wants to push those dammmm overhead light buttons. I knew I was reaching a mommy time-out when I contemplated taking a hammer to those overhead lights in the vehicle...
Mommies....any advise??

21 months is when Michael hit the terrible twos. It went downhill for three months and then started to improve. By about 27 months things should be going better.
The best suggestion I have is to give choices, but to make sure that selection of either choice be a win for you. So, instead of "put your shoes on" it's "Do you want the sneakers or the sandals?" It won't always work, but sometimes it does.
Also, enjoy this stage. The three-year-old stage is just as annoying, but it involves things like "mommy, I don't like you" instead of "NOOOO!"
